A Bit About Me!

If you asked me when I began writing I’m afraid I couldn’t say as I really can’t remember a time when I wasn’t scribbling something down!  In my teens it was bad poetry and even worse fiction!

Fortunately I kept at it and began to have success with both in various competitions and anthologies.

I started to write for the more lucrative article market when the demands of a growing family made freelancing a sensible option and have been doing so ever since. One of my first successes was a weekly column on rural nostalgia for the Leicester Mercury, which often included interviews with a local residents.  I also contributed community news stories and photographs to the Mercury.

The development of my farming interests opened up opportunities with the farming press one of which still entails a regular column for Smallholder.

For two years I dipped my toes into the publishing world, editing and publishing a free magazine distributed to the parents of primary school children. This had a print run of 30,000 and taught me a great deal about writing commercially.  This ultimately gave me the idea for
www.writelink.co.uk , a community of creative writers, sharing their ideas and experience to help each other advance their careers.

In addition to running the web community, I write regularly for a number of publications, copy write for the business sector, run workshops and have written various ebooks on subjects ranging from creative writing to freelancing.
